The Cisco interface card – Gigabit Ethernet WAN EHWIC (EHWIC 1 GE-SFP-CU) is an enhanced high-speed interface card providing copper and optical Gigabit Ethernet ports and connectivity of T1/E1 and T3/E3 over optical for Cisco ISRs.
The EHWIC 1 GE-SFP-CU provides copper and optical Gigabit Ethernet connectivity through a dual-purpose uplink.
Note The EHWIC 1GE SFP CU provides maximum 800 Mbps unidirectional and 1600 Mbps bidirectional Ethernet throughput, but the actual throughput is limited by the platform.
The SFP slot supports Cisco certified copper or optical SFPs. (see the list: “Some of the most popular SFP Transceivers Supported on the EHWIC-1GE-SFP-CU”)
The EHWIC 1GE SFP CU is a true routed port card. IP addresses can be directly configured on the EHWIC interface unlike SVI configurations in which the port is configured for VLAN trunking.
The Cisco module EHWIC 1 GE-SFP-CU is compatible with almost all the Cisco isrs including the following Cisco devices: ISR Cisco 1921, Cisco 1941, Cisco 1941W, Cisco 2901, Cisco 2911, Cisco 2921, Cisco 2951, Cisco 3925, Cisco 3925E, Cisco 3945, and Cisco 3945E.
Notice: Online insertion and removal is not supported for EHWIC 1 GE-SFP-CU.

Steps of configuring the EHWIC 1 GE-SFP-CU:
2. configure terminal
3. interface type slot/subslot/port number
4. ip address ip-address mask
6. no shutdown
Here is the example steps and their purposes of EHWIC 1 GE-SFP-CU configuration:
Router> enable (to enable privileged EXEC mode.)
*Enter your password if prompted.
Router# configure terminal (to enter global configuration mode.)
Router(config)# interface ethernet 0/3/0 (to enter the configuration mode for Ethernet transport on the EHWIC interface on the router.)
Router(config-if)# ip address 192.168.12.2 255.255.255.0 (to set the IP address and subnet mask for the interface.)
Router(config-if)# shutdown (to disable the interface, changing its state from administratively up to administratively down.
Router(config-if)# no shutdown (to enables the interface, changing its state from administratively down to administratively up.
(to exit configuration mode and returns to global configuration mode.)
